Abigail Peterson, Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), Licensed Direct Entry Midwife (LDM) and Traditional Herbalist
Abigail Peterson is a compassionate midwife devoted to empowering families through the transformative journey of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Her practice is deeply rooted in holistic care, and she takes pride in providing warmth, understanding, and unwavering support to every family she serves.
Abby’s path to midwifery began in 2003 after the birth of her only child, a life-changing experience that inspired her passion for supporting other families. Living in a rural Nevada town with limited resources, she was motivated to advocate for young, pregnant women who often lacked access to proper care and support.
In 2005, Abby completed her doula training in California and began attending births as a dedicated doula, offering hands-on care and guidance to families. By 2012, Abby earned her Associate of Arts in General Studies from Great Basin College. That same year, she moved to Reno and expanded her career by teaching childbirth education at a large hospital, serving as the staff doula for a group home supporting young pregnant women, and working with an adoption agency to provide care and guidance for expectant mothers. These roles solidified her commitment to advocating for families and fostering informed decision-making.
Between 2012 and 2015, Abby pursued her interest in natural medicine, earning a Certificate of Herbal Studies from Taking Root in Reno, Nevada. Her expertise as a Traditional Herbalist is rooted in this formal education and enriched by the generational wisdom passed down through her family.
In 2016, Abby felt called to broaden her ability to support families and enrolled at Mercy In Action College of Midwifery. She went on to apprentice with home birth practices in Nevada and Idaho, as well as a birth center in New Hampshire, gaining invaluable experience across diverse care settings to hone her skills. After completing her rigorous training, she graduated in 2022 and has been joyfully serving families ever since.
Abby was drawn to Bella Vie Birth Center for its mission of providing gentle, holistic, family-centered care. She wholeheartedly believes that families thrive when supported by informed choices in a nurturing environment. Her passion for education and advocacy has always been a driving force in her career. With over 15 years of teaching experience—spanning high school, middle school, and childbirth education—she skillfully combines her love of teaching with her midwifery practice. Abby often says, “If I wasn’t a midwife, I’d be a teacher!” Abby’s favorite part of midwifery is building meaningful relationships and her approach ensures that families feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout their journey into parenthood.
When Abby isn’t busy catching babies, she treasures spending time with her loved ones, exploring the outdoors, foraging, and adventuring along the coast. She finds joy in connecting with nature and embracing the many adventures life has to offer.
